Configuring an Adapter

You can configure any supported adapter for use with a Full-Function Server, WebFOCUS Reporting Server, or DataMigrator Server from the Web Console or the Data Management Console.

If an adapter has already been configured, it is listed in the Configured Adapters list of the Connect to Data page. Adapters that have not been configured can be configured by clicking New on the Connect to Data action bar. Adapters are grouped as follows:

Note: Although all database configuration panes have the same look and feel, the parameters are specific to each database. To obtain detailed configuration information for an adapter, click the ? next to each parameter.

Most of the adapter configuration information is contained in two configuration files, EDASPROF.PRF and EDASERVE.CFG.

Your entries on the Web Console or the Data Management Console populate these files.

Procedure: How to Declare Connection Attributes

You can configure the adapter from either the Web Console or the Data Management Console.

  1. From the Web Console sidebar, click Connect to Data.

    or

    From the Data Management Console, expand the Adapters folder. The Adapters folder opens. Expand the Available folder, if it is not already expanded.

    From the Web Console, click New on the Connect to Data page action bar. The list of available adapters opens. There is a drop-down menu you can use to show adapters in a specific category.

  2. Right-click the adapter name and/or version and select Configure.

    The Add Adapter to Configuration pane opens.

  3. Enter values for the parameters required by the adapter, as described in the connection attributes reference.
  4. Click Configure. The configured adapter is added to the Adapters list in the resources tree.

Once an adapter is configured, you can click the adapter name or connection to perform a variety of other tasks, including creating synonyms, testing or deleting the connection, and changing or viewing the connection properties. Specific options vary by adapter.

Procedure: How to Test an Adapter Connection

  1. From the Web Console sidebar, click Connect to Data.

    or

    from the Data Management Console, expand the Adapters folder. The Adapters folder opens.

    Expand an adapter.

  2. Right-click the adapter connection and, if available for the selected adapter, click Test.

    The test results appear in the right pane. Test results vary, depending on adapter.
