Creating Basic Output Requests

Topics:

This Primer provides a foundation of the basic concepts to write reports. You use the reporting language to create all of the output requests in this Primer. You describe the reports you want to produce by writing report requests. For more information on reporting features and syntax described in this Primer, see the technical content for your product.

Each request contains a set of English language instructions called commands that are interpreted and implemented. The result of the request is a report or a chart. Charting syntax is similar to reporting syntax. A chart can present the same kinds of information as a tabular report, in a wide variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional chart types.
